Lee Ann Kim is a Virgo, storyteller, and community instigator. She creates magic through producing videos, writing, hosting, and artistic shenanigans.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Lee Ann grew up in the suburbs of Chicago as the oldest of four daughters. After a failed audition for her high school’s talent show as a rapper, she was recruited to join the school’s speech team where she found her voice. She eventually worked her way to become Illinois State Champion in Humerous Interpretation.
Lee Ann earned her Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park. During her senior year, she was accepted into a graduate-level radio reporting program, Capitol News Service, where she filed daily news reports from Annapolis for local NPR stations in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
Her television news career includes stints in Houston, TX, Tuscaloosa, AL (Roll Tide!), Springfield, MO, and San Diego. In San Diego, Lee Ann is best known for reporting and anchoring for ABC-10 News where she earned several awards for her journalism including a regional Emmy for investigative reporting.
In 2000, Lee Ann co-founded the first-ever San Diego Asian Film Festival with a group of journalists and filmmakers. She served as Executive Director for 16 years, during which she grew the festival into a year-round nonprofit media arts organization, Pacific Arts Movement.
Currently, Lee Ann runs her own production company, Ajumma Media Productions. In 2022, she was appointed to City of San Diego’s Commission for Arts and Culture. She is also an enthusiastic practitioner and teacher of yoga. When possible, she dabbles in acting, flashmobbing, and other creative projects. But her most important role is raising two sons with her co-conspirator and loving husband, Louis Song.
